LICHTBLICK
An artistic intervention at the Wotruba Church.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony for this building designed by Fritz Wotruba, a 3D mapping projection installation transformed the Church of the Holiest Trinity in Vienna into a lively interplay of light and sound.
In doing so, the work referred to the defining architectural concrete elements, transforming them from their solid appearance and lending them lightness and transparency. The result was a multi-layered interplay of light and shadow, accompanied by a specially created sound collage. In the 15-minute show, the three elements of light, matter and sound became an artistic symphony that, like the Trinity, presented itself as an inseparable unit. This intervention took place on the "20th Long Night of the Churches" on 7 June 2024.

The intervention was supported by various projection artists. In addition to the artistic projection design, three powerful sky beams were used during the intervention. These shone far into the night sky and symbolised the unification of the trinity.

With the kind permission of the Belvedere 21 Museum, which manages Fritz Wotruba's artistic estate, the model was photographed and projected onto the real building.

The end of the intervention was dedicated to the model that Fritz Wotruba himself modelled during his lifetime. The words of Fritz Wotruba, spoken by Otto Clemens, which he dedicated to the building, could be heard.  "To design something that shows that poverty does not have to be ugly, that renunciation can be in an environment that is beautiful and also makes you happy despite its great simplicity."
